Father of Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Leon Passes Away at 92
Shalom Leon, father of Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Leon, died at the age of 92 at Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv. Born in Thessaloniki, Greece, he immigrated to Israel with his family in 1935 as an infant, narrowly escaping the Holocaust in which many extended family members perished at Auschwitz. Shalom Leon worked for decades in the automotive industry, managing a garage and was known for his integrity and dedication. He also served as a cantor for many years at the Heichal Moshe synagogue in Givatayim, where he lived. Colleagues remember him as a hardworking and upright man who prioritized his children's education, raising a respected family including Mayor Moshe Leon, Dr. Nissim Leon, and Professor Orly Miron. His wife, Hanna, passed away several years ago. The funeral will be held Thursday at the Givatayim cemetery, with the family sitting shiva in Jerusalem. May his memory be a blessing.
