Shalom Leon, Father of Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Leon, Dies at 92
Shalom Leon, father of Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Leon, passed away at the age of 92 at Ichilov Hospital. His funeral is scheduled for tomorrow at the Givatayim cemetery, with the family observing shiva in Jerusalem. Born in Thessaloniki, Greece, Shalom Leon immigrated to Israel with his parents before the Holocaust, which saved his life; however, his paternal family perished in Auschwitz. The Jerusalem Municipality described him as a member of the generation that built their home in Israel with faith, tradition, humility, and hard work. Throughout his life, he combined manual labor with a long-standing tradition of cantorial singing and was a beloved figure in his family. Alongside his late wife Hannah, he raised a family grounded in values of dedication, responsibility, love for the people and the land, and commitment to Jewish tradition. The municipality extended its condolences to Mayor Moshe Leon, his siblings, children, grandchildren, and the entire family.
