IDF Investigation Finds Possible Warning Fire Fragments Killed Two MSF Workers in Gaza
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) released an investigation into the deaths of two Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) workers in Gaza in November 2023. The incident occurred during a convoy movement near Khan Yunis. The day before, coordination had been made with the IDF for the convoy's passage, but the checkpoint forces were not updated about this arrangement.
The convoy, consisting of five vehicles, was instructed to wait. However, fearing they would not reach their destination before nightfall, the convoy decided to return to Gaza without further coordination. On their way back, IDF forces fired warning shots to disperse the convoy, but the vehicles continued moving, prompting a second round of warning fire on the road.
The investigation concluded that the tragic deaths of the two convoy passengers may have been caused by fragments from the warning fire. No evidence was found of direct fire aimed at the convoy. The IDF stated that the event does not raise reasonable suspicion of criminal wrongdoing.
