Karlin-Stolin Rebbe Faces Violent Attack by Extremists in Jerusalem Amid Wedding Celebration
On Tuesday evening, the Karlin-Stolin Rebbe attended a seven blessings celebration for his grandson at his synagogue, Heichal D'Rabbeinu Yochanan Karlin, on Avinoam Yelin Street in Jerusalem. The event marked the wedding of the Rebbe's grandson, Rabbi Moshe Viliger, son of Rabbi Leibel Viliger, with the daughter of Rabbi Avraham Yehoshua Hershel Goldman, son of the Zvhill Av Beit Din in Bnei Brak, and son-in-law of Rabbi Shmuel Luria, dayan of Vizhnitz Antwerp.
As in previous visits, extremist zealots gathered to protest the Rebbe, accusing him of compromising on issues such as Haredi conscription into the Israeli army. The protest escalated into violent clashes when the extremists attempted to physically harm the Rebbe. The Karlin Hasidim defended him, leading to intense violence. Rabbi Michal Zilber, the synagogue's rabbinic authority, was also attacked with shouting and insults.
Reports from the Paragud news outlet indicated that some extremist figures are now seeking to apologize to Rabbi Zilber, claiming they were unaware of his identity during the incident. Rabbi Zilber strongly condemned the extremists' behavior.
In response to the events, the Karlin-Stolin Rebbe addressed his followers the following morning, praising their dedication to protecting his honor but warning against using violence, emphasizing that violence is not a path of Torah.
