Son of Montreal Satmar Rebbe Attacked Over Views, Later Joins Wedding Celebration

A wedding celebration in Montreal, uniting the grandson of Rabbi Shmuel Eliezer Stern and the granddaughter of the Satmar Rebbe of Montreal, drew many prominent rabbis and rebbes. Outside the hall, the Satmar Rebbe's son was shockingly and crudely attacked by a small extremist group. Witnesses say the assault stemmed from the son's Zionist views and personal outlook, sparking deep outrage among attendees and the broader community, especially amid current tensions.

One local resident told Kikar HaShabbat that in such a complex time, with widespread hatred and incitement against the Haredi community, it is shameful to create unnecessary internal divisions and publicly shame someone for their opinions. Several leading rabbis and rebbes present expressed profound pain and silent but strong protest against the blatant injustice and sin committed in the heart of a city known for Torah and Hasidism.

Despite the disturbing incident, later that evening the Satmar Rebbe's son was seen participating joyfully in the wedding, dancing in the "mitzvah tanz" alongside family and other rebbes, receiving sustained support from those present.
