Israeli Security Forces Arrest Suspect Planning Terror Attack in Beersheba
Israeli security forces thwarted a planned terror attack in Beersheba by arresting Abdullah Gargawi, a 20-year-old resident of the settlement of Segev Shalom. The arrest took place on July 19, 2026, following a joint investigation by the Southern District Central Unit of the Israel Police and the Shin Bet. Gargawi was found to be in contact with a foreign agent, possessed illegal weapons, and intended to carry out a terror attack using a car bomb at the Forum club in Beersheba.
Investigations revealed that Gargawi had been exposed for an extended period to ISIS-related content on social media, identified with the organization's ideology, and consumed terror-related materials. He also communicated with individuals online, including one posing as a Palestinian terrorist, and participated in Telegram groups sharing ISIS and terror-related content. He prepared explosive materials and assembled an improvised explosive device as part of his attack plan.
During March and April 2026, Gargawi illegally possessed an M16-type weapon with standard parts, accessories, and ammunition, and discharged it in an open area. In 2025, he reportedly held multiple firearms at his home, including a MAG, Kalashnikov, Negev rifle, M16, magazines, and ammunition. Following the investigation, the Southern District Prosecutor's Office filed serious charges against him for security offenses and illegal possession of weapons and ammunition.
The Israel Police and Shin Bet emphasized the severity of any Israeli citizen's involvement in terror activities and pledged to continue their determined efforts to prevent terror attacks and ensure full legal accountability for those involved in terrorism targeting Israeli civilians and residents.
