Apple May Charge for Advanced Siri AI Features

Apple is reportedly considering charging users for some of the advanced functions of Siri AI, the new version of its voice assistant unveiled at WWDC 2026. The report, attributed to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and published by tgspot, says the core Siri features would remain free, including existing tools and functions that rely on personal data stored on the device.

The paid or restricted tier would likely cover more demanding capabilities such as open-ended conversation, general-knowledge answers, content creation and broader use of AI models. The main reason is the high cost of running generative AI systems. Siri AI is built on Apple Intelligence, but it also uses outside technology, including Google’s Gemini, operating through Apple’s cloud infrastructure.

Apple has already signaled a possible direction in this area, saying some features, especially image generation through its servers, will be subject to daily usage limits. Users of iCloud+ are expected to receive larger quotas, which could indicate a gradual move toward AI features bundled into paid plans.

Siri AI is meant to be a major upgrade over the long-running assistant. It will be able to find information in messages and email, locate reservations, draft replies, edit photos, and hold continuous conversations across iPhone, iPad and Mac. Industry estimates say Apple is still closing the gap with rivals such as Google, OpenAI and Anthropic, and any paid model will depend on whether Siri AI becomes a truly useful work tool rather than just a refreshed digital assistant.
