Ashkelon Man Arrested on Bus for Breaking into Four Local Businesses
Ashkelon police detectives recently investigated a series of break-ins at local businesses over the past weeks. The suspect, a man in his 30s from Ashkelon, was arrested on suspicion of multiple burglaries and other property offenses. Authorities plan to request an extension of his detention during court proceedings.
On the night of August 9, the suspect allegedly broke into a business in Ashkelon. Forensic evidence collected at the scene linked him to the crime. Another break-in was reported on August 13, with security footage and investigation suggesting the same individual was responsible, following a similar modus operandi.
The suspect was located near Tel Aviv and was found boarding a bus heading back to Ashkelon. Police and patrol units stopped the bus on Highway 4 near Kfar Silver, where the suspect attempted to hide but was apprehended and taken for questioning at the Ashkelon police station.
Police officials highlighted a significant drop in property crimes compared to the previous year, alongside a 46% increase in indictments for such offenses. This improvement reflects intensified investigative efforts and evidence gathering by southern district police, Border Police fighters, and intelligence units. A senior southern district official emphasized the ongoing commitment to combating crimes affecting public safety and property, in line with directives from Police Commissioner Danni Levy and Southern District Commander Haim Bublil.
