Amar'e Stoudemire Enters Basketball Hall of Fame, Reflects on Spiritual Journey and Time in Israel

Amar'e Stoudemire was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts, during a ceremony held overnight between Saturday and Sunday. In his speech, Stoudemire shared insights into his spiritual journey, revealing that he studied Torah and the Bible privately for 20 years. He explained that after his final NBA game with the Miami Heat, he chose to move to Israel to find a place where he could both live and continue playing basketball.

Stoudemire described his adjustment to life in Israel, noting the smaller arenas and team bus rides compared to the private jets he was used to in the NBA. He expressed fondness for his time there, especially his tenure with Maccabi Tel Aviv, where he lived near the Mediterranean Sea and ended his career with a championship and Finals MVP honors.

He also reflected on his impactful stint with the New York Knicks, the team that brought him back to prominence in the early 2010s. Joining the Knicks in 2010 at age 27, Stoudemire was a key figure in revitalizing the franchise, which had struggled with instability. He recalled the excitement of Madison Square Garden and the MVP chants, emphasizing that he helped restore the Knicks’ status as a top NBA team. Stoudemire praised the Knicks’ recent NBA championship and highlighted the significance of sharing the Hall of Fame induction class with Mike D’Antoni, his former coach in Phoenix and New York.

Throughout his career, Stoudemire earned six All-Star selections, Rookie of the Year honors, one All-NBA First Team selection, and four Second Team selections. The 2026 Hall of Fame class also included Doc Rivers, Candace Parker, Elena Delle Donne, Chamik Holdsklau, Mark Piao, and referee Joey Crawford.
