Google Unveils Pixel 11 Series Highlighting AI Focus Amid Price Hikes

Google held its annual Made by Google event in New York, showcasing its latest hardware vision centered on artificial intelligence integration. The highlight was the Pixel 11 smartphone series, which includes four models: the base Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and the new Pixel 11 Pro Fold, a foldable phone. All models are powered by the new Tensor G6 chip, manufactured using an advanced 2-nanometer process by TSMC, designed to enhance thermal efficiency and run AI models locally rather than competing on raw performance.

The Pixel 11 Pro models introduce a new HiLight LED lighting system on the rear camera bar, providing customizable notifications and visual cues linked to caller ID and camera modes. The base Pixel 11 features a 48-megapixel main sensor with improved light sensitivity and up to 30x digital zoom, while Pro models offer up to 120x zoom. Google continues to leverage advanced computational photography to rival the camera capabilities of Apple's iPhone and Samsung's Galaxy S series.

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold has been redesigned to be slimmer at about 10.1 millimeters when closed, aiming to compete with Chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi and Honor, though its internal structure remains largely unchanged from last year. Google also introduced the Pixel Tag, a tracking device using UWB and Bluetooth Channel Sounding technology, entering the market dominated by Apple's AirTag and Samsung's Galaxy SmartTag. The Pixel Tag relies on Google's extensive Find My network and requires modern devices for precise navigation.

Additionally, Google launched the Pixel Watch 5, which retains a round design but adds advanced health monitoring features such as emergency oxygen level detection, blood pressure monitoring, and insulin resistance tracking. The watch has increased memory capacity to run Gemini AI models directly on the wrist, positioning it as a competitor to the Apple Watch and Samsung Galaxy Watch series.

A major talking point was the significant price increase across the new devices due to a global rise in memory component costs. The Pixel 11 base model starts at $899, Pro models at $1,099, and the foldable Pro Fold at $1,899. Although Google does not officially import Pixel phones to Israel, they are popular among tech professionals via parallel importers. The higher prices are expected to place the Pixel series in the premium segment, challenging consumer loyalty given the competitive pricing of alternatives like Samsung Galaxy and Apple iPhone devices.
