The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has introduced an initiative called "When Antisemitism Enters the Classroom," featuring a confidential reporting system for students and faculty experiencing harassment or bias in higher education institutions. This initiative accompanies two reports revealing a shift of antisemitism on U.S. campuses from public protests into lecture halls and curricula.
According to ADL research documenting 1,694 antisemitic incidents on campuses in 2024 and 583 in 2025, the phenomenon includes one-sided political presentations at universities such as Stanford and Princeton, and the inclusion of reading materials from terrorist organizations like the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. The reports also expose organized networks of faculty members and academic unions providing institutional support to activists and promoting boycott initiatives against Israel.
ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt emphasized that antisemitism is infiltrating campuses and university lectures, with many incidents occurring behind closed classroom doors and often going unreported by students. The new reporting mechanism aims to bridge this gap. Additionally, the ADL offers toolkits and policy recommendations for college and university administrators to enforce appropriate conduct, protect academic freedom without permitting discrimination, and address tenure issues related to faculty spreading hate and extreme political bias.
