Israel Launches 'Campus Israel' Portal to Attract US Students Amid Rising Campus Antisemitism

In response to increasing antisemitism on US campuses, the Israeli initiative "Campus Israel" has launched a new portal promoting English-language academic programs at Israeli universities. The platform offers personalized guidance, scholarships, and connections to local industries, aiming to attract foreign students, particularly Jewish students from the United States.

Currently, Israel offers over 30 undergraduate and more than 150 graduate degree programs taught entirely in English. However, each university manages its own costly and often limited international recruitment efforts. "Campus Israel" addresses this market gap by centralizing information and applications on a single technological platform, modeled after the American Common App system.

A strategic agreement was recently signed between "Campus Israel" and the Council of Higher Education (CHE) representing all public research universities in Israel. Under this agreement, "Campus Israel" will lead international digital marketing campaigns and global collaborations to increase foreign student enrollment. A joint working group will advise institutions on expanding English programs and exploring new recruitment markets.

Founder and CEO Pler Hassan-Nahum emphasized that while Jewish students in the US face an untenable reality, the initiative is more than a safe haven; it is a growth engine for Israel. She highlighted Israel's vibrant academic environment and innovation leadership, aiming to attract future talents in AI, business, and economics and integrate them into Israel's academic and labor markets.

Supported by European and American philanthropists, the platform recently launched in beta and already supports nearly 100 students through all stages of registration and study. Services include personalized program matching, academic concierge, visa assistance, housing, health insurance, internships, and industry connections, all free of charge.

Lisa Barkan, part of the initiative, noted the critical need for a centralized, effective international recruitment tool for Israeli academia. Additionally, a dedicated scholarship fund is being established to financially support outstanding students relocating to Israel, ensuring economic barriers do not hinder talented individuals.

In November, "Campus Israel" plans an official launch event, bringing a delegation of college counselors from leading US high schools to Israel to promote Israeli academic options and prioritize them for Jewish students worldwide.
