Israeli Butcher Who Donated Meat to IDF Soldiers Foils Bomb Attack, Faces Business Closure

Mohammad Kiyan, an Israeli butcher in Bat Yam who has donated hundreds of tons of meat to IDF soldiers since October 7, became a target himself when a masked suspect arrived at his shop on an off-road motorcycle carrying a grenade. Kiyan managed to overpower the attacker before the grenade could be detonated, preventing a potential disaster. He described how he left his customers to confront the suspect and acted out of a desire to protect everyone in the shop and a nearby café.

Following the incident, Kiyan was summoned to the police station and warned that his business would be shut down if he did not comply with their demands. His lawyer, Shiran Bar Ari, criticized the police for threatening to issue an administrative closure order against Kiyan, who had actually neutralized the threat. Kiyan also reported facing racist remarks due to his assistance efforts, with some telling him to leave for Gaza and accusing Arabs of trying to take over the city. He emphasized his close friendships with many Jewish people across different communities.

The suspect remains in custody, with his detention extended until Sunday, while police continue to investigate all leads. Subsequently, the police issued a temporary closure order for Kiyan's business. This case highlights tensions amid ongoing conflict and the challenges faced by those supporting the IDF from diverse backgrounds.
