Israeli Police Arrest Additional Suspect in Barak Abramov’s Cafeteria Chain Bombing Case
Israeli police announced the arrest of another suspect in connection with the ongoing investigation into attacks on branches of Barak Abramov’s cafeteria chain, Cafenica. The suspect was detained on suspicion of throwing a grenade at the Cafenica branch in Kiryat Ono, owned by the Beitar Jerusalem football club owner. The Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court extended the suspect’s detention by 12 days as the investigation continues under the Central Unit of the Tel Aviv District Police.
This development is part of a broader wave of violent incidents targeting Cafenica branches in several cities including Givatayim, Herzliya, Ramat Gan, Netanya, Or Yehuda, and Afula. Besides the newly arrested individual, the court has already extended the detention of four other suspects until July 19.
Barak Abramov, a notable figure in Israeli business and football, founded an investment group in 2006 that owned several restaurant chains including Cafenica. In 2015, he acquired full ownership of Cafenica’s approximately 20 branches for 50 million shekels. In May 2026, Abramov sold 20% of his investment group, a deal expected to inject around 200 million shekels into his group.
Abramov also has a significant history in Israeli football, having purchased Bnei Yehuda in 2016 and leading the club to two State Cup victories. In 2022, he sold Bnei Yehuda back to its previous owner and acquired Beitar Jerusalem, where he implemented major changes that restored the club’s prominence, including winning the State Cup for the first time since 2009.
