Israeli Police Shut Down Butcher Shop in Rahat After Shooting Incident

The Israeli police announced the closure of a butcher shop in the city of Rahat for 15 days following a shooting incident earlier this month. Armed assailants fired into the shop over the past weekend, injuring the shop manager, who is an illegal resident, moderately. The shooting is part of an ongoing feud between local families in Rahat.

In response to the incident and as part of efforts to prevent escalation of criminal conflicts and shootings targeting businesses, police decided to close the butcher shop. The closure order was signed by the Rahat police station commander, Superintendent Yona Yitzhak, in coordination with professional authorities and the Southern District Legal Advisor's office.

This shooting adds to a series of violent events linked to family disputes in Rahat. In March, police and Border Police raided residential areas in the city following murders and violent incidents, arresting 13 suspects and seizing an M-16 rifle, two handguns, magazines, and ammunition. Another major police operation took place in May after the murder of a local youth, suspected to be related to criminal family conflicts. This operation involved hundreds of officers and resulted in dozens of arrests and the establishment of a dedicated task force to maintain order in Rahat.
