Prosecutor and Legal Advisor Clash Over Jonathan Orich's Plea Deal in Leak Case

Central District Prosecutor Haim Vismonsky reached a plea deal with Jonathan Orich's defense attorney in the leak case involving the German newspaper Bild, proposing that Orich serve nine months of community service. The Attorney General supported the agreement, but State Attorney Amit Aisman opposed it, demanding actual prison time, leading to the collapse of negotiations, i24NEWS reporter Avishai Greenzaig revealed on Wednesday.

Vismonsky presented the plea deal proposal to secure necessary approvals. While the Attorney General backed the deal, Aisman vetoed it during a meeting, insisting on a 12-month prison sentence for Orich. The Attorney General chose not to push further since the case falls under the State Attorney's jurisdiction. Orich rejected the 12-month prison offer, and no new plea talks have occurred since.

The indictment against Orich includes two charges punishable by life imprisonment, among other offenses. Both the Attorney General and State Attorney denied the report, calling it entirely false and threatened to issue a press statement refuting it if published. Greenzaig responded that it takes boldness and audacity to deny a report and threaten a press release when evidence supporting the report exists.
