Israeli Forces Arrest Palestinian Imam Near Cave of the Patriarchs for Incitement to Terror

Israeli security forces arrested a 70-year-old Palestinian imam in Hebron on suspicion of inciting violence against Israel and encouraging terror attacks. The arrest took place in the suspect's yard, located approximately 200 meters from the Cave of the Patriarchs, while over 14,000 worshippers were present at the site. The imam, a local religious figure, was detained by the "Arrow" unit of the Judea and Samaria District Police during gardening work at his home. The arrest followed an investigation targeting individuals suspected of incitement on social media platforms.

According to police, preliminary evidence indicates the imam actively used social media to promote attacks, violence, and disturbances in the West Bank and beyond. During a search of his home, authorities confiscated his mobile phone and laptop. The suspect was taken in for further questioning. The operation was conducted amid heavy security, with hundreds of police officers, Border Police, IDF soldiers, and volunteers securing the Cave of the Patriarchs area.

This arrest was part of ongoing cooperation between the Judea and Samaria District and the IDF Central Command, which continuously monitors social media to identify inciters. The authorities emphasized the importance of preventing calls for violence, especially during large religious gatherings.
