Widow of Sanz Hasidic Leader Rabbi Moshe David Gutman Passes Away in Jerusalem

In Jerusalem, the community mourned the passing of Mrs. Chaya Sarah Gutman, widow of Rabbi Moshe David Gutman, the late head of the Sanz Hasidic community in Jerusalem. She died peacefully after a period of illness and was laid to rest on Mount of Olives following a funeral procession from the Shamgar funeral home. Born in Budapest to Rabbi Tzvi Eisner, she was known for her exceptional character, piety, and dedication to charity.

Mrs. Gutman was a steadfast partner to her late husband, Rabbi Moshe David Gutman, who passed away in March 2019 and was a respected leader within the Sanz community. She played a vital role in supporting and strengthening the Sanz institutions in the Holy Land. Her death has deeply saddened her family, the community, and the institutions she helped sustain.

She is survived by her sons, Rabbi Shlomo Tzvi Gutman and Rabbi Yisrael Nach Gutman, who continue to be pillars of the Sanz community in Jerusalem, as well as extended family from the Eisner and Hollander families. The family is sitting shiva at their home on Menachat Yitzchak Street in Jerusalem. Her soul is remembered with honor and blessing.
