Nicks' NBA Title Celebrations in Manhattan Turn Violent
Celebrations over the New York Knicks' NBA championship quickly descended into chaos in Manhattan, where fans were seen setting vehicles on fire in the streets. In the Times Square area, revelers also climbed into, and in some cases onto the roofs of, buses shortly after the victory was announced.
Witnesses reported crowds running through the streets as fireworks went off and were visible over Brooklyn and Central Park. The scene spread across several parts of the city as the celebrations grew increasingly unruly.
Police arrived and moved to disperse the gatherings, pushing fans away from dangerous areas and trying to restore order. City officials said such incidents can sometimes accompany major sports celebrations in New York, but stressed that any dangerous or violent behavior would be dealt with according to the law.
