Knicks Victory Celebration Turns Chaotic in Times Square, School Buses Set on Fire
Celebrations for the New York Knicks' win descended into violence late Sunday night in Times Square, where crowds rioted after the team’s victory. Fans damaged several school buses, set at least one ablaze, and some climbed onto the vehicles’ roofs while the scene turned into what the article described as widespread vandalism.
Videos circulated on social media show people tearing off parts of the buses, smashing beer bottles on the street, removing mirrors and covers, and throwing burning clothing into one bus until it caught fire completely. Other participants were seen dancing on the buses as the destruction continued. One bus was sprayed with graffiti reading “Let’s go Knicks” and “F*ck ICE.”
Police in New York did not intervene until about 2:30 a.m., more than an hour after the unrest began, according to the report. By Wednesday morning, police said no arrests had been made for the vandalism or the arson. One bus driver reportedly tried to protect his vehicle, saying any damage would be deducted from his pay.
The disturbance also alarmed nearby residents. In one clip, a woman can be heard shouting, “You know our tax dollars go to public schools, right?” The footage was first amplified by accounts on X, including Nick Sortor and Oliya Scootercaster, as the Knicks celebration spiraled into a major public disorder incident.
