IDF Removes Settler Siege on Palestinian Homes in Kousra Amid Clashes

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) began dismantling tents outside Palestinian homes in the village of Kousra on Wednesday, ending a four-day siege imposed by settlers. Dozens of settlers confronted soldiers, dismantling roadblocks and fences, while the Palestinian families remained effectively trapped. The entire area was declared a closed military zone.

According to the human rights organization Yesh Din, settlers besieged two homes in Kousra, located in Area B of the West Bank, cutting off electricity and water supplies. Seven Palestinians, including two young girls aged four and ten, were confined inside their homes for three days with dwindling food and water. The settlers, who established a new outpost near the homes in January 2026, blocked access roads with stone piles, sabotaged electrical cables, and damaged water pipes.

Yesh Din reported that settlers stayed in a sukkah near the homes around the clock, preventing the families from leaving due to fear of violence. Attempts to summon security forces were unsuccessful, with one military unit reportedly praying with the settlers before leaving. The organization demanded that IDF Central Command Chief Avi Blot evacuate the outpost and ensure the safety of the Palestinian residents.

The IDF responded on Wednesday evening, condemning the illegal and harmful actions by Israeli civilians in the area and imposing a closed military zone for non-residents. The military pledged to handle all involved parties in coordination with security forces and warned that any IDF personnel found participating would face disciplinary action.

Additionally, journalist Matan Golan from Haaretz reported being attacked by settlers while covering the incident and claimed soldiers prevented her from reporting. The Israeli Press Council condemned the attack and called on the Central Command to investigate and ensure journalists can work without interference.
