Hamas Tests IDF Alertness After Stealing Pipes Near Gaza's Yellow Line

Israeli military observers identified several Palestinians near the northern Gaza Strip approaching the yellow line, where they successfully stole iron pipes. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, and although the IDF quickly deployed a drone to intercept the suspects, they escaped unharmed. A security source noted that the suspects did not cross the yellow line but managed to steal materials close to it. The IDF conducted a field review, describing the response as "not good," with commanders emphasizing the need for faster reaction times.

Commanders fear Hamas is probing IDF alertness to establish infrastructure for attacks and to gather raw materials for weapons manufacturing, specifically rockets. Following the event, procedures in the area were tightened. The security source clarified that the incident, which took place about three kilometers from the Israeli border, was unrelated to any confusion over rules of engagement, as there is clear guidance on neutralizing immediate threats.

In recent weeks, the IDF uncovered additional underground infrastructure in Gaza and is preparing to destroy it. The Ministry of Defense and the Technology and Logistics Directorate are enhancing security measures at outposts and along the yellow line. This incident follows reports that the IDF is restricted in conducting targeted killings in Gaza due to political directives, with no recent requests submitted for such operations.
