Six Firefighting Planes Battle Large Blaze in Jordan Valley Near Argaman

A significant wildfire broke out near the Argaman settlement in the Jordan Valley on Monday, rapidly spreading toward nearby date palm orchards due to strong winds. Six firefighting planes from the Elad Squadron are actively combating the fire alongside ground crews from the Samaria Regional Fire Station and reinforcements from neighboring districts. The fire threatens a local nature reserve and agricultural areas.

The blaze began about an hour before reports and quickly expanded, prompting the deployment of four additional firefighting planes to join two already in operation. The aerial units focus on creating containment lines using fire retardants, while ground teams concentrate on extinguishing flames in the date orchards. Engineering equipment supports efforts to prevent further spread.

Samaria Regional Station Commander Lt. Col. Avi Ben Saadon described the fire as "significant," emphasizing the rapid movement along the Jordan River terrain and the threat to the nature reserve. He warned that current weather conditions, including extreme heat and dry winds, increase the risk of fast-developing fires, and that firefighting forces have been reinforced accordingly.

In parallel, firefighters gained control over another fire in the Judea region. Crews will remain on site for several hours to complete extinguishing efforts and prevent flare-ups. The recent wave of wildfires across Israel is attributed to the ongoing heatwave and dry weather. Fire authorities urge the public to avoid lighting fires in open areas and to report any signs of smoke or fire immediately.
