Five-Year-Old Ian Abu Amar Dies After Drowning in Public Pool Near Beersheba

Ian Munir Abu Amar, a five-year-old boy from Lakia, was declared dead on Monday at Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba after drowning in a public pool in the town of Omer last week. Emergency medical teams initially found Ian unconscious and without a pulse, but after prolonged resuscitation efforts, his heart resumed beating and he was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Despite medical intervention, his death was confirmed six days after the incident. Ian's family has consented to organ donation.

The rescue team members, paramedics Uriel Cohen and Wisam Abu Saad, recounted that Ian was found unresponsive and not breathing when pulled from the water. They administered lifesaving treatment, including extended CPR, which temporarily revived him before hospital transfer.

This tragic event follows two other recent drowning deaths in Israel: four-year-old Shalom Seginer from Jerusalem drowned in a hotel pool in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico, and a one-and-a-half-year-old toddler drowned in a private pool in Ashkelon. Both children were pronounced dead after emergency efforts failed to save them.
