Maya Same Opens New Chapter of Forgiveness and Hope After Captivity

Maya Same, an Israeli captivity survivor, shared a message of hope and renewal with her hundreds of thousands of Instagram followers. Referencing verses from Psalms, she emphasized themes of mercy, forgiveness, and letting go of the past. In a recent Instagram story, Same quoted Psalms passages about God’s compassion and the distance He places between people and their sins, interpreting them as encouragement to release burdens and forgive oneself.

Same described this spiritual reflection as a new chapter in her life, marked by the words "Bless the Lord, O my soul... The Lord my God, you are very great." She explained that after her release from Hamas captivity, she found a strong connection to faith, which helped her cope with trauma and crises. She urged her followers to embrace forgiveness and start anew, highlighting that even after hardship, there is light and strength within the soul.

Additionally, Same revealed a personal connection to the Hebrew date of her birthday, which coincides with the yahrzeit of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai. She drew parallels between her own experience of extreme isolation during captivity and the Rabbi’s story of spiritual confinement, noting that from the darkest places, the greatest light can emerge. This insight has given her a profound sense of inner power and closeness to God despite adversity.

Same has previously called on the public to pray for Rabbi Dov Kook’s recovery, who was hospitalized with severe pneumonia in May. Her ongoing public sharing of faith and resilience continues to inspire many as she navigates life after captivity.
