Brother of Fallen Soldier Eli Gamzu Enlists in IDF Paratroopers to Continue His Legacy

Liam Aaron Gamzu, brother of Staff Sergeant Eli Gamzu who was killed on October 7, has enlisted in the IDF Paratroopers Brigade, determined to follow in his late brother's footsteps. Liam emphasized his commitment to serve as a soldier in his own right, stating, "Eli did his part for the country, now it's my turn." His parents supported his decision to join an infantry combat unit, with his father Samuel explaining that they could not stop him from pursuing his life and mission. "He told me, 'Don't stop my life,'" Samuel recalled.

Liam's enlistment was part of a broader wave of new recruits to the Paratroopers Brigade, featured in the IDF's "Welcome to the IDF" series. Among them was Harry Newat, a 20-year-old lone soldier who immigrated from Australia eight months ago. Newat cited rising antisemitism in Australia as a motivating factor for his enlistment, expressing pride in joining what he called "the best unit in the world."

Another new recruit, Raz Goshen, comes from a long family tradition of service in the Paratroopers. He said, "My father, grandfather, and most of my family served in the Paratroopers. I am here to continue that path." The series highlights the diverse backgrounds and motivations of new soldiers joining various IDF combat units.
