Likud Demands MKs Dan Illouz and Yuli Edelstein Resign Within 24 Hours or Face Expulsion

The Likud party has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to Members of Knesset Dan Illouz and Yuli Edelstein, demanding their resignation from the party. If they fail to comply, the party intends to convene a faction meeting to initiate a process declaring them "defectors." Likud official Avichai Boaron criticized both politicians for acting unethically by shifting political allegiances after receiving their mandates from Likud voters. Boaron stated that while changing political paths is permissible, doing so while trading on voters' trust is unacceptable and constitutes a betrayal of the public's confidence.

Boaron emphasized that Illouz and Edelstein should have resigned immediately upon announcing their departure from Likud. Their continued presence in the party is seen as damaging to right-wing voters and the party itself. He pledged that if they do not step down within the given timeframe, he will push for a faction vote to formally label them as defectors. Boaron concluded by affirming that Likud voters deserve representatives with clear ideology and strong principles.

Both Dan Illouz and Yuli Edelstein have announced they will not run in the upcoming Likud primaries, signaling a break from the party. This development comes amid internal tensions within Likud regarding loyalty and party discipline ahead of future elections.
