IDF Investigates Kite Found Near Gaza, Council Head Warns of Escalating Threats

Over the weekend, a kite was discovered in the moshav Shuva in the Gaza border area, which residents claim originated from the Gaza Strip. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that the kite was found without any suspicious materials and that it cannot be confirmed with certainty that it crossed over from Gaza. The incident, detected on Friday, is under investigation, and no explosives or incendiary devices were found on the kite during security sweeps.

If confirmed, this would be at least the third such kite found since October 7. The concern is that Palestinian groups in Gaza may be testing where these kites land as a precursor to attaching explosives or incendiary materials. Tamir Aidan, head of the Sha'ar HaNegev Regional Council, condemned the incident as a serious breach, calling it a "red line" and warning against complacency. He emphasized that while this kite carried no payload, future attempts could involve explosives or drones, referencing past costly lessons.

Aidan demanded a strong response to deter future attacks and insisted that residents will not accept a gradual return to previous security conditions. He stated that any threat to the security of Gaza border communities must be met with a price to clearly signal that Israel will not tolerate a return to such threats. Regarding peace initiatives for Gaza, Aidan stressed that no discussions on Gaza’s future will be accepted until full security is guaranteed, including the complete disarmament of Hamas and demilitarization of the Gaza Strip.
