Sdot Negev Council Head Condemns Kite Incursion From Gaza as 'Red Line Crossed'

Tamir Idan, head of the Sdot Negev Regional Council, strongly condemned the intrusion of a kite from the Gaza Strip into the moshav Shuva over the weekend. Although the kite did not carry an explosive device, Idan described the incident as a "red line crossed" and warned against underestimating such events. He emphasized that while this time the kite was harmless, similar aerial devices could be used in the future to carry explosives or be replaced by drones, posing a serious security threat.

Idan called on the Israeli government to respond firmly to the incident, rejecting any policy of tolerance toward threats emanating from Gaza. He stated that the residents of the Gaza envelope area should not have to endure a gradual return to previous security realities marked by ongoing threats. "There must be a strong and clear response to this event," he said, stressing that Israel must make it clear to Hamas and other actors that it will not allow a return to such security challenges.

Addressing broader issues concerning Gaza's future, Idan asserted that no political arrangements can proceed without ensuring the security of the Gaza envelope residents. He outlined conditions including the dismantling of Hamas, demilitarization of the Gaza Strip, and guaranteed safety for local communities. "The residents of the Gaza envelope need security certainty, not more promises," he concluded, affirming Israel's responsibility to uphold this without compromise.
