Two Brothers Charged for Armed Shooting and Threats Against Family in Rahat

The Southern District Prosecutor's Office filed charges against brothers Youssef Albakhiri, 22, and Hassan Albakhiri, 26, residents of Rahat, for a violent shooting and threats directed at their relatives. The incident occurred about a month ago during an ongoing family dispute. According to the indictment, Youssef climbed onto his roof armed with an assault rifle and fired multiple rounds toward family members and the street, shouting threats such as "I will kill you." Women and children were present nearby during the shooting. Family members took cover behind a parked car and later fled to their home yard. Twenty-one bullet impacts were found on one complainant's vehicle.

In a related event, Hassan approached the back of the relatives' house holding an object resembling a gun, threatening to shoot if they did not stop. He aimed the object at two family members and warned them not to approach before fleeing the scene. The Rahat police station investigated the case.

The prosecution requested the suspects remain in custody throughout the legal proceedings, citing the high danger posed by firearm possession and use, especially amid rising gun violence. Youssef faces charges including attempted grievous bodily harm, illegal weapon possession, shooting with a firearm, and intentional property damage. Hassan is charged with threats. Attorney Itai Beitan emphasized the necessity of detaining armed offenders to protect the public.
