Nico Wheeler-Babb Joins Crvena Zvezda After Stints with Villeurbanne and Anadolu Efes
After an intense EuroLeague transfer period, Nico Wheeler-Babb, a 30-year-old guard standing 1.94 meters tall, has signed with Crvena Zvezda. Wheeler-Babb had initially signed with Villeurbanne this summer following one season at Anadolu Efes. However, due to a significant budget cut at Villeurbanne, he returned to the market, with Hapoel Tel Aviv among the interested teams. Ultimately, Wheeler-Babb chose Crvena Zvezda, marking his third EuroLeague team after five seasons with Bayern Munich and one with Anadolu Efes.
In the previous season, Wheeler-Babb earned the EuroLeague Defensive Player of the Year award for 2024-25 and was a standout player for Anadolu Efes despite the team's overall struggles. He averaged 7.7 points, 4.8 assists, and 3.4 rebounds over 29 minutes per game. Crvena Zvezda's acquisition of Wheeler-Babb strengthens their backcourt, joining recent signings Chris Jones and David Kramer, following the departure of Cody Miller-McIntyre. This move was announced alongside Maccabi Tel Aviv's signing of Keaton Wallace on the same day.
