Police Arrest Eight Suspects After Violent Night of Shootings in Southern Israel

Southern Israel experienced another violent night with multiple shootings in the Bedouin town of Lakiya and the city of Ashdod on August 9, 2026. In Lakiya, police arrested three men suspected of involvement in a mass brawl that included gunfire. One suspect fled into a nearby wadi but was caught after a police chase involving search teams and flare illumination. Two additional suspects in their thirties were also detained in Lakiya for firing shots during the altercation.

In Ashdod, police responded to reports of gunfire resulting in one person lightly injured. Following rapid investigative efforts, five suspects were arrested in connection with the shooting. All eight detainees from both locations were taken for questioning, and police plan to present them for extended detention hearings at magistrate courts in Beersheba and Ashkelon.
