Pentagon Urges Defense Industry to Rapidly Boost Weapons Production Amid Iran Conflict

The ongoing conflict with Iran is severely depleting U.S. ammunition reserves, prompting urgent action from the Pentagon. Deputy Defense Secretary Steve Feinberg has demanded that defense industry leaders submit plans within 21 days to significantly increase production rates and drastically shorten delivery times for critical weapons systems. Feinberg emphasized that development cycles lasting years are unacceptable under current conditions. In addition to traditional defense contractors, Silicon Valley companies and startups have been summoned for meetings with senior government officials to contribute to accelerating production.

This push for increased arms manufacturing is complicated by a stalled $1.15 trillion defense budget bill in the U.S. Congress, held up due to Democratic opposition. Meanwhile, recent pro-Iranian sources reported explosions and fires at a gas facility in Al-Jubail, Saudi Arabia, highlighting regional tensions. The U.S. Navy has also allowed 30 ships to sail to Iran for humanitarian reasons despite a maritime blockade.

In related regional developments, Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced that Egypt may join a new defense alliance recently formed by Turkey, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia. The alliance, which resembles NATO’s mutual defense clause, aims to enhance security cooperation but is not directed against Iran. A ministerial committee and a general secretariat based in Saudi Arabia will be established to manage the alliance’s operations.

Separately, the Israeli military is investigating an incident near Hebron where Israelis were filmed assaulting a Palestinian man in the presence of an IDF soldier, who intervened after the man fell to the ground. The military is reviewing the conduct of the soldier and the overall handling of the situation.
