Homeless Man Charged With Murdering Bnei Brak Yeshiva Student in Front of His 13-Year-Old Son
State prosecutors on Sunday filed an indictment at the Tel Aviv District Court against 45-year-old Guy Achtlinger, a homeless man accused of murdering Yeshiva student Yishai Por from the Hazon Ish kollel in Bnei Brak last month. According to the charges, Por was killed while his only son, age 13, stood next to him.
The indictment, submitted by attorney Meredet Shiban Prael, says the two men knew each other through Torah study at the kollel. About a week before the killing, while they were there together, Achtlinger allegedly threatened Por, saying he would "cut off his head."
A few days later, prosecutors say, Achtlinger returned to the kollel wearing a glove and carrying a knife, while Por was there with his son. He came up behind Por and stabbed him several times in the neck and once in the back, "with the intent to murder him," the indictment states. Por collapsed and was taken to hospital with massive bleeding and was unconscious.
The indictment also says Achtlinger fled the scene, hid the jacket he had worn, the glove and the knife in an abandoned structure nearby in an effort to destroy evidence, then traveled to Beit Shemesh, where he was arrested hours later. He is charged with aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, and child abuse for forcing the 13-year-old to witness his father's killing.
