Veteran Journalist Oren Nahari Ends Radio Show Due to ALS Progression

Veteran Israeli journalist Oren Nahari announced that he will broadcast his final radio program, "Saturday with Oren Nahari," tomorrow morning on Reshet Bet due to the worsening of his ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) condition. Nahari, who revealed his diagnosis in March and described the rapid progression of the incurable muscle-wasting disease, expressed regret that he cannot complete his planned coverage of 20th-century events with his audience.

In his last show, Nahari plans to play some of his favorite songs and provide an overview of current world affairs. During the second half, he will conclude his well-known segment "A Year in an Hour" by discussing significant events from 1961, including the sinking of the ship Egoz, power struggles in China, the assassination of dictator Trujillo in the Dominican Republic, and a military coup in South Korea.

Nahari is recognized as a knowledgeable foreign news editor and commentator, known for his intellectual approach. Besides his media career, he has lectured and authored nonfiction books. His departure marks the end of a long-standing presence in Israeli journalism due to his health challenges.
