PSV Eyes Fourth Straight Dutch Title as Ajax and Feyenoord Challenge
The Dutch Eredivisie kicks off with a low-profile match between Cambuur and Excelsior, but the main focus is the title race. PSV Eindhoven aims for its fourth consecutive championship and third overall under coach Peter Bosz, having dominated the league in recent years. PSV holds a 48.6% chance to retain the title according to Opta's supercomputer forecast. This season, PSV strengthened its squad by signing Serbian midfielder Filip Kostić from Juventus and is close to acquiring Japanese international Kodai Sanoha from NEC Nijmegen. Additionally, Ruben van Bommel returns from a serious injury to help offset the departure of Ismaïl Saïdiri to Bayern Munich.
Feyenoord, which finished second last season, has an 11.8% chance of winning the title. The club appointed Giovanni van Bronckhorst for a second stint as head coach, replacing Robin van Persie. A key question for Feyenoord is whether they can retain prolific striker Ayase Ueda, who scored 25 goals last season and is attracting Premier League interest.
Ajax, coached by former Maccabi Tel Aviv manager Oscar Gloukh, starts its campaign against Zwolle on Sunday and is ranked third with a 10.2% chance of winning. After a disastrous previous season marked by two coaching changes and a near miss on European qualification, Ajax has undergone a major overhaul. New coach Mitchell, who previously led Girona to the Champions League, has brought in Brazilian Marcus Leonardo and German internationals Julian Brandt and Marc-André ter Stegen. Meanwhile, Ajax may part ways with Mika Choudets, who is reportedly wanted by PSG.
Other contenders include AZ Alkmaar and Twente, with chances of 8.6% and 8.1% respectively. The Eredivisie title race promises to be competitive as PSV seeks to continue its dominance while Ajax and Feyenoord rebuild and challenge for the crown.
