12-Year-Old Autistic Israeli Boy Impresses US Ambassador Mike Herzog with Diplomatic Knowledge

Amitai Perel, a 12-year-old boy from Atlit who has autism and dreams of becoming a diplomat, recently met with US Ambassador to Israel Mike Herzog at the US Embassy in Jerusalem. During their meeting, Amitai demonstrated impressive knowledge of history, diplomacy, and international relations, which deeply impressed Herzog. The ambassador jokingly declared Amitai an honorary US ambassador and praised his intelligence, saying he was "smarter than most people I know in government."

Amitai shared his passion for history and diplomacy, explaining that he enjoys learning about how countries cooperate. When asked about his future ambitions, he said he wants to be a diplomat, but also considered becoming a prime minister or foreign minister. He thanked Herzog for his longstanding friendship and support of Israel and emphasized the importance of stronger cooperation between the two countries.

The conversation also touched on expanding agreements with other nations, with Herzog humorously suggesting sending Amitai to Riyadh to represent Israeli interests. Amitai stressed the role children can play in combating antisemitism, terrorism, and extremism worldwide, expressing hope that these challenges can be overcome.

A notable moment came when Herzog mentioned a guitar gifted by his wife Janet, and Amitai immediately recalled her name, impressing the ambassador further.
