Haifa District Attorney Receives Over 1 Million Shekels Retirement Grant After Legal Settlement

Ayala Pails-Sharon, the Haifa District Attorney, will retire from the Ministry of Justice following a labor court settlement, receiving a retirement grant exceeding 1.1 million shekels. The agreement concluded a legal dispute initiated by Pails-Sharon, who had sued for a bridging pension, a budgetary pension, and millions of shekels in compensation.

Initially appointed for a fixed eight-year term, Pails-Sharon earned over 70,000 shekels monthly. Upon completing her term, she sought to maintain her salary either by continuing in her role or transferring to another position, but the Ministry of Justice declined to extend her tenure. The settlement grants her 15.5 months’ salary as severance along with additional conditions.

The dispute centered on her demand to preserve her employment terms and salary, which approached 80,000 shekels monthly. She claimed that suitable positions matching her qualifications were not offered and that the state had failed for years to regulate retirement terms for senior prosecutors insured under a cumulative pension plan. It was also noted she did not apply for other relevant job openings during the period.

Earlier reports from the Haifa District Attorney’s office indicated Pails-Sharon took numerous overseas vacations during her tenure, despite her claims of exemplary service. Her legal representatives stated that the state neglected to establish retirement arrangements for district attorneys with cumulative pensions, unlike those with budgetary pensions or other senior fixed-term government officials. They emphasized that the temporary retirement arrangement was proposed by the Ministry of Justice, the Civil Service Commission, and the salary supervisor, and was ratified by a judicial decision.
