Iranian Opposition Denounces Regime Support Rallies Amid Hormuz Strait Talks

As negotiations between Iran and Oman progress toward a new arrangement in the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian opposition activists and journalists are intensifying criticism of the regime. They allege that pro-regime rallies are not spontaneous but orchestrated and funded by authorities, aiming to consolidate control rather than reflect genuine public support. Opposition voices warn that Iran’s true goal in Hormuz is strategic dominance, not just economic gain from transit fees.

An Iranian opposition activist sharply condemned the talks, accusing the regime of using negotiations to buy time for extortion, kidnappings, and terrorism. She argued that only military leverage could break the regime’s power and called for support of a transitional government and cooperation with Israel to target regime leaders. Despite dissent, millions in Iran still support the Islamic Republic.

Opposition journalist Mohammad Ahvaz published an official tender document from Varamin municipality near Tehran, revealing government funding for organizing nightly pro-regime gatherings, including budgets for food, drinks, sound systems, and logistics. This contradicts the regime’s narrative that these rallies are grassroots and spontaneous.

Additional opposition reports highlight increased repression, citing at least 908 executions in Iran since the start of 2026, with 67 in July alone and eight in early August. The secrecy surrounding executions suggests they serve as a political tool for intimidation and control rather than mere criminal punishment. The opposition views the rising executions as a response to recent protests and security challenges.

Other social media posts describe hidden dangers in everyday life, such as an underground pit concealed beneath a rented home, illustrating broader societal issues. Meanwhile, some Iranians express frustration over the regime’s focus on infrastructure destruction and war expansion. The opposition stresses that Iran’s pursuit of control over the Strait of Hormuz remains a critical threat, with the risk of escalation persisting until a decisive resolution is reached.
