Pazgaz Workers Threaten Gas Supply Disruption During Holidays Amid Labor Dispute

Employees of Pazgaz, a gas distribution company owned by Paz, have escalated labor tensions by initiating protest actions and holding informational meetings after declaring a labor dispute several months ago. Pazgaz employs around 500 workers and serves approximately 200,000 households. The workers, many of whom are long-term employees and veterans who claim to have risked their lives during wartime for the company, accuse management of undermining their job security through branch relocations and other measures. They have warned of potential disruptions to gas supply during the upcoming holidays.

The workers' union chairperson, Rahli Saadia Gol, stated that negotiations broke down after management, led by Paz CEO Nir Stern, refused to continue talks. She emphasized that the employees will not remain silent while their conditions are threatened and demanded the cancellation of any cost-cutting plans affecting them. Gol highlighted that many workers earn a modest salary of about 7,000 shekels despite their dedication.

Paz responded by noting that the labor dispute was declared on February 19 and that no significant changes have occurred since then to justify the recent escalation. The company denied plans to close branches or reduce staff, stating no layoffs have occurred during recent efficiency measures. Paz also pointed out that less than 350 employees are covered by the collective agreement, which it claims is the best in the sector, and that workers have received salary increases and bonuses this year regardless of the agreement.

The company criticized what it called unfounded claims and attempts by fringe groups to create headlines, firmly denying any risk to gas supply during the holidays. Paz called the threats to disrupt holiday gas deliveries irresponsible and unnecessary.
