Rogel Nahum to Step Down as Head of Israeli Athletics Association

Rogel Nahum, the performance director and former athlete of the Israeli Athletics Association, is set to conclude his role following mutual discussions with the organization. Nahum, 59, has been a key professional figure in Israeli athletics, overseeing all disciplines within the sport. He initially left the position nine years ago to work in the private sector but later returned to lead the association.

Nahum's athletic career spanned 18 years from 1984 to 2002, during which he competed in high jump, long jump, and triple jump. He represented Israel in three Olympic Games: Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996, and Sydney 2000, where he also had the honor of carrying the Israeli flag during the opening ceremony. Additionally, he participated in four World Championships and earned two gold medals at the Maccabiah Games.

Among the athletes he mentored was Olympic competitor Hanna Minenko. The decision for Nahum to step down is expected to be finalized soon, marking the end of a significant era for Israeli athletics. The association and Nahum have been negotiating the terms of his departure over recent months.
