Hapoel Tel Aviv Signs Veteran Guard Freddy Burdion for 2026/27 Season

Hapoel Tel Aviv announced the signing of guard Freddy Burdion to a one-year contract through the end of the 2026/27 season. At 35 years old and 1.93 meters tall, Burdion becomes the 21st player on the team roster, which currently includes 11 foreign players and 10 Israelis. Burdion started the 2025/26 season with Maccabi Ramat Gan before moving to Bnei Herzliya, appearing in 15 games with averages of 5.5 points, 3 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game, shooting 44.0% on two-pointers and 90.3% from the free-throw line.

Hapoel Tel Aviv plans to loan out Tamir Blatt and release Tyler Anis, reducing the squad to 19 players with nine Israelis remaining. It is expected that at least one Israeli player, likely Yiftah Ziv, will be released, as he was previously authorized to seek a new team. Burdion began his professional career in France with Antibes and later played for several Israeli teams including Maccabi Haifa, Hapoel Eilat, Maccabi Rishon LeZion, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Hapoel Holon, and Bnei Herzliya.

He has won two national championships, the French Cup, and the Balkan League. After signing, Burdion expressed excitement and motivation to join Hapoel, calling it one of the best teams in Europe and eager to compete for titles. Hapoel's professional manager, George Chinas, highlighted Burdion's shooting ability and leadership qualities as key assets for the team's championship ambitions. Head coach Dimitris Itoudis welcomed Burdion, emphasizing his experience and scoring skills as valuable for the club's goal of winning the league title.
