Journalist Eli Levi Set to Return as Israel Police Spokesperson Amid Leadership Changes

Israel Police is undergoing a leadership change in its spokesperson division. According to a report by Liran Tamari on ynet, Deputy Commissioner Lior Abudraham is expected to conclude his tenure as head of the police spokesperson unit soon. This transition coincides with his anticipated promotion to another senior role within the police force. Concurrently, advanced negotiations are underway to reinstate journalist Eli Levi as the head of the Israel Police spokesperson division.

Levi is well-acquainted with the police system, having been appointed in April 2021 as the police spokesperson and deputy head of the spokesperson unit with the rank of deputy commissioner. He ended his police service in August 2024 and subsequently joined i24NEWS as a correspondent in August 2025. The current leadership change is not framed as a dismissal of Abudraham, who was recently investigated in connection with associates of National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, but rather as part of a routine rotation of roles within the police. If the talks succeed, Levi will resume his leadership of the police spokesperson unit.
