Israeli Guy Torres Wins World Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi Championship in Abu Dhabi

Israeli athlete Guy Torres claimed the gold medal in the under-18, 62 kg category at the World Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi Championship held in Abu Dhabi. His victory was part of a strong performance by the Israeli delegation, which also included Tamir Naim winning bronze in the same weight class, Shalev Shnir earning silver in the under-56 kg category, and Eden Gamliel securing silver in the under-18, 69 kg division. These achievements contributed to Israel finishing second in the overall medal standings for the cadet and youth No-Gi competition, with a total of 13 medals including four golds.

The Israeli team’s success followed earlier wins by Noga Rashaf and Leah Shalev in the gi division of the world championship. The Israeli ambassador to the UAE, Yossi Shelly, personally presented medals to the athletes during the award ceremonies. Erez Elroy, president of the Israeli Jiu-Jitsu Federation, praised the coaching staff and athletes for their preparation and resilience throughout the demanding competition. Eric Kaplan, president and CEO of the "Eilat" Federation for Non-Olympic Sports, highlighted the athletes’ skill and determination, emphasizing the depth and quality of Israel’s next generation of jiu-jitsu competitors and expressing optimism for further success in the ongoing championship.
