Israeli Guy Torres Wins World No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Abu Dhabi

Israeli athlete Guy Torres claimed the gold medal in the under-18, 62 kg category at the World No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu Championship held in Abu Dhabi. Alongside Torres, Tamir Naim secured a bronze medal in the same weight class, while Shalev Shnir earned silver in the 56 kg category, and Eden Gamiel took silver in the under-18, 69 kg division. These achievements contributed to Israel's strong performance at the event, which included multiple medals and the playing of Israel's national anthem, "Hatikvah," during the award ceremonies.

The Israeli cadet and youth team concluded the No-Gi competition with a total of 13 medals, including four golds, finishing second in the overall medal standings. Earlier in the championship, Israeli athletes Noga Rashaf and Leah Shalev won world titles in the gi (with uniform) division. The Israeli ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Yossi Shelly, personally presented medals to the Israeli athletes during the ceremonies.

Erez Elroi, president of the Israeli Jiu-Jitsu Federation, praised the coaching staff for their preparation and support throughout the challenging competition. Eric Kaplan, president and CEO of the "Eilat" Federation, which oversees non-Olympic sports, highlighted the determination and skill of the Israeli competitors and expressed pride in the team’s depth and future potential. The Israeli delegation’s success at the Abu Dhabi championship underscores the growing strength of Israeli jiu-jitsu on the world stage.
