Yoaz Hendel Pledges Broad Zionist Government Without Ultra-Orthodox or Arab Parties

In an interview with Channel 7 following the launch of his new party "Beit Tzioni" in Jerusalem, Yoaz Hendel outlined his vision for a broad Zionist government that excludes both ultra-Orthodox and Arab parties. Hendel, who founded the party with Hili Tropper amid ongoing election campaigns, positioned it as a centrist alternative focused on addressing Israel's pressing challenges, particularly the military draft crisis and loss of state control in regions like the Negev and Galilee.

Hendel criticized the current government and opposition figures, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. He accused Netanyahu of failing to take responsibility for the events of October 7 and called for his resignation, emphasizing that the priority is forming a broad Zionist coalition capable of passing genuine draft legislation. Hendel argued that all Israeli citizens should contribute to the state through military or national service and that those unwilling to share the burden should not expect full state rights.

He dismissed rumors of a political alliance with Gadi Eisenkot, stating he was unaware of such moves, and stressed that his partnership with Tropper is both political and personal, aimed at establishing a government after the elections. Hendel expressed confidence despite polls placing his party near the electoral threshold, focusing instead on policy work. He highlighted that about 90 Zionist Knesset members could form a majority if there is political will. Hendel concluded by rejecting personal ego as a motive, stressing the need to break the cycle of repeated elections and ineffective governments following the heavy toll since October 7.
