New York Firefighter Suspended 30 Days for Inciting Against Haredi Paramedic

The Spring Valley Fire Commissioners Board in New York has suspended a firefighter for 30 days after he posted a video online that disparaged a Haredi paramedic. The paramedic, part of the Hatzalah emergency organization in Rockland County, had parked his emergency vehicle in a disabled parking spot at a Costco in Nanuet while urgently treating an unconscious child inside the store. The firefighter filmed the vehicle and shared the footage on Facebook without mentioning the life-saving emergency, sparking public outrage and antisemitic responses against the Haredi community and Hatzalah.

Following widespread media coverage and public protest, the Fire Commissioners convened an emergency meeting and voted for the immediate suspension. The board is continuing to investigate and may impose further disciplinary measures. The firefighter is also a member of the volunteer ambulance service William F. Feist, which is conducting its own internal review to determine appropriate sanctions.

The incident has heightened tensions in Rockland County, where recent harassment of Haredi residents has raised concerns about escalating hostility.
