White House restricts Anthropic AI access over reported China-related concerns
The White House has restricted access in the United States to Anthropic’s powerful AI model Mythos and its consumer version, Fable 5, according to a Semafor report citing a source familiar with the matter.
The limits were imposed in part because officials suspected that a group linked to China had managed to obtain access to the model. The report said Trump administration officials worried that Chinese access could threaten U.S. national security and could also give China an opportunity to try to copy the system.
Anthropic said the White House did not raise the issue of Chinese access during the discussions that took place before the restrictions were put in place. The company added that its products are barred from use in China.
