Greek media call for long suspension after violent Jones-Nunn clash
Greek basketball is reeling after a heated incident in the final game of the championship series between Olympiacos and Panathinaikos. Olympiacos beat Panathinaikos 89-85 on Saturday in the decisive fifth game of the Greek title series, but much of the attention afterward focused on what happened off the scoreboard.
Late in the third quarter, Panathinaikos guard Kendrick Nunn and Olympiacos player Tyson Jones got into a fight and were both ejected. The confrontation then escalated, and Jones was later shown punching Nunn in the face in what local media described as a serious incident. Panathinaikos coach Ergin Ataman said after the game, “Jones simply punched Nunn in the face. A very serious incident, I do not understand what happened to the Greek league.”
Another leaked video from the aftermath showed security personnel and a large police presence in the locker room area near players from both teams, apparently tied to the same incident. Greek fans reacted with shock online, with some writing that Jones should be suspended for at least a year.
Greek outlet Sport24 also reported that Nunn was taken to hospital after the game, apparently unrelated to the altercation with Jones. The guard is said to have a rib fracture and will undergo further tests.
