Peace Council Proposes Paying Thousands to Collect Weapons in Gaza

The Peace Council is developing a plan to offer financial incentives to individuals in Gaza who surrender their weapons and commit to abandoning terrorism, according to a report on Kan News on Tuesday evening. The initiative, still in the formulation stage, involves a "buyback" policy where those willing to lay down arms and renounce violence would receive thousands of dollars and be included in a rehabilitation program.

This plan aligns with the 20-point framework proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump and a 15-point agreement reached with Hamas, both of which emphasize weapon possession according to Palestinian law, requiring all firearms, including pistols, to be licensed. The program primarily targets the collection of Kalashnikov rifles.

The Peace Council anticipates international financial support, especially from Gulf countries, to fund the weapon collection project. Despite the proposal, some ministers have expressed opposition to the Gaza plan. A political source stated, "We will not back down from the line." The council also committed to compensating voluntary migration as part of its broader strategy involving Israel.
